Last last week when I recieved the Model UN certificate at the flag-raising ceremony, I had the honour of recieving an unexpected insult from our most respectable headmaster. He told me with the warmest of smiles that I was too short and I should grow taller. I returned his smile with an equally bright one but inside, I really wanted to punch him in the face. I am quite sure the headmaster didn't say this on purpose and that he was unaware of the anger it would inflict in others, but precisely due to this, I should like to question whether this teacher of almost 30 years has a right to be one. He has insulted a student with his words and although I do not mind my being short, such rude remarks might wound the dignity of others. Students are in the process of learning and development, therefore parents and teachers  should pay special attention to not only their physical and educational need, but also their phsycological needs. Education is not only about Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics, it is also about building a healthy personality and setting sound moral standards. A student is not a prisoner of school, they are citizens of society and school is the critical terminal from family to society. Students should recieve the adequate education so as to prepare them for the future, they should be respected like everyone else, they should be encouraged by their teachers, not with harsh apathetic words, but with fair praise and kindness. I'm quite sure the headmaster wouldn't see this, but I desperately hope that he would choose his words carefully next time.

    New from National Geographic:

The Republic of Kiribati in the South Pacific has designated an enormous swath of Pacific atolls, coral reefs, and deep ocean to become one of the world's largest marine reserves.

The Phoenix Islands Protected Area safeguards some of the planet's most pristine coral reef ecosystems. The new marine park is the world's third largest, topped only by Australia's Great Barrier Reef and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.

    The Kiss

    The Kiss by Rodan
Last night I saw an introduction about Rodan's The Kiss on TV. The virtual physical beauty and the excitement that this masterpiece generates is very inspiring. The narrator spent almost twenty minutes talking about the link between The Kiss and Nineteenth century western erotisism, but I'd rather ignore that part and just focus on the aesthetic elements. Though it has provoked controversy through the centuries, I personally admire it. It is a silent moment of unadulterated love. Please forgive me for my horrible comment. I've pasted a section of a more professional review from the internet which might be of more help.
Rodin's goal, as he put it, was "to render inner feelings through muscular movement." He achieved this aim by joining his profound knowledge of anatomy and movement with special attention to the body's surfaces, saying, "The sculptor must learn to reproduce the surface, which means all that vibrates on the surface, soul, love, passion, life...Sculpture is thus the art of hollows and mounds, not of smoothness, or even polished planes." To this end, his detailed modeling and energetic poses are strikingly vigorous and lifelike...even one hundred years after they were created.
The Kiss Sculpture was inspired by Dante's tale of Paolo and Francesca, lovers entwined for eternity in the Inferno, this statue was initially part of Rodin's Gates of Hell. Of the many couples sculpted during his tumultuous liaison with Camille Claudel, The Kiss is the most sensuous. The poet Rilke compared it to "a sun that rises and floods all with its light."
